The Issues
Why is Sonia Running for School Board?
Sonia is running for Capistrano Unified School District, Area 5 to ensure that kids in our community have opportunities to access the highest quality education. Parents must be given access to be involved in their kids’ academic journey. Sonia believes that promoting community leadership and involvement among our youth should be one of the top five priorities. Most importantly, Sonia wants to ensure safety for every child. In order to thrive at school, children must first feel safe.
Restoring childhood and letting children be children is the key to building strong, mature, and robust leaders of the future.

Ensuring our children have access to a quality education is essential and our duty as parents. We must ensure that each child in our school is given the opportunity to thrive. For some, it may require extra tutoring, for others it may require opportunities to enroll in rigorous academic courses.
Having a strong academic curriculum and ensuring every student learns and performs to the best of their ability is crucial.
-
Parents must be involved in decisions that affect their children. No decisions should be left up to teachers and students alone. Teachers are there for the students. Students are children who belong to their parents.
Not bringing parents in the fold is abusive and child neglect.
-
When children and teachers feel safe, they can shift their attention to learning. And when parents know their children are safe at school, they can peacefully attend to the other areas of their life during school hours. We must create a secure learning environment. We must safeguard our children by implementing zero-tolerance policies for physical altercations, weapons, alcohol, and illicit drugs.
Allocating funding for campus safety and a safe learning environment is non-negotiable and must be our number one priority for CUSD.
